Archery Certificate Course
Mount Petrie Bowmen conducts inexpensive courses, using safe modern equipment, under the supervision of qualified coaches. Everything is provided for your tuition, and once you join the Club we can guide you through the process of purchasing suitable equipment.
The Archery Certificate Course is for those wanting to become archers, learn good technique, and shoot well. You will also learn about range safety and shooting etiquette. On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a certificate that entitles you to join the Club within a period of 12 months without the requirement for further introductory training. Beyond that the Club reserves the right to require you to do a refresher before joining.
Courses are run at regular intervals throughout the year. Bookings are made beforehand via our online booking and payment system so we know how many people are coming.

The course is run on a Saturday starting at 8.00am. We start by fitting you out with equipment appropriate to your physical characteristics. The day finishes at around 1.30pm, including lunch and rest breaks as required. The course is mostly conducted in our 30m x 30m indoor facility so it runs in all weather conditions. If the weather is kind we will also be able to spend some time outdoors where we have a substantial sun shade.
Cost is $150.00pp and includes equipment hire, access to the venue, insurance and sufficient coaches to keep participants safe and the course moving along.
If you already own your own archery equipment you will not be able to use it on the course.
If you are only wanting to try archery to see if you might like it, why not book into one of our Come & Try courses instead? Learn more….
Archery Australia certification
On successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate that will be recognised by other Archery Australia affiliated clubs, at their discretion. Sometimes we are unable to issue a certificate, often for young children, if a participant hasn’t been able to demonstrate an ability to consistently reach the target at 18m in a safe manner.
A word on archery for kids, especially little kids.
A good archery experience has at least two elements that some little kids find difficult. There is the physical element where the bow has to be pulled back many times and this can be quite physically demanding. Then there is the mental bit where there is a demand for the learner to be aware of their body and to understand what has to be done with their body and to be able to do it consistently. Generally we find that the age of 11 is the earliest that children can deal with those two parts of learning archery.
For these reasons we strongly recommend against booking children under the age of 11 into the Archery Certificate Course. Mount Petrie Bowmen reserves the right to refuse coaching to anyone who is not of the required age or physical ability.
PLEASE NOTE: Parents/guardians of children under the age of 18 years are required to stay for the duration of the course, as they remain primarily responsible for the behaviour and welfare of their children.
Archery can be for the whole family, including older people and those living with a disability. Bookings and payment are only taken online – Book now.
