Facilities
Sixty years of volunteer commitment has led to Mount Petrie Bowmen having one of the most enviable archery facilities in the southern hemisphere.
The outdoor range is named for Tom Hannay, one of our founding members. It is 100 x 130sqm and incorporates a clout pad. The shooting line boasts an 86m sun shade for which we gratefully acknowledge the support of a Get Playing grant from the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation to assist with the construction of this significant structure.
We are especially proud of our disability supportive environment that provides a network of ‘to standard’ pathways permitting continuous wheelchair access to the outdoor range with its stable shooting line, and the sealed inner car park, workshop, club house, communal areas, indoor hall and toilets. This work has been supported by funding from Sports Australia and the Brisbane City Council Access and Inclusion Community Partnership Program.
In 2011 we opened our magnificent 30m x 30m indoor shooting hall which is named for former Club President, Mike Cowie, who was instrumental in making this important development happen. A building of such significance could not have been achieved without the contribution of funding from the Federal and State governments.
We are also fortunate in having easy access to an adjacent 24 lane field course on a lease held by our state governing body, South Queensland Archery Society.
A modest Clubhouse and canteen with ample communal seating rounds out the facility.
