School Holidays

Would you like your kids to experience archery?

Mount Petrie Bowmen offers school holidays opportunities for students aged 11 to end of year 12.  For $40.00 participants will learn basic archery technique using safe low powered recurve bows.  Safety is a high priority for us, so time will be spent at the start of the activity to make sure everyone understands the need for safe behaviour.

The activity is led by qualified coaches and lasts for about two and a half hours.  The fee covers equipment hire, access to the venue, insurance and sufficient coaches to keep participants safe and the course moving along.

The activity is conducted in our 30m x 30m indoor facility so it runs in all weather conditions.  If the weather is kind we will also be able to spend some time outdoors where we have a substantial sun shade.

On arrival participants are fitted out with archery equipment based on their physical attributes. Please arrive by 10.00am so that we can distribute equipment before starting.  The morning finishes around 12.00 – 12.30pm.

If you already own your own archery equipment you will not be able to use it on the course.

Courses are run during school holidays throughout the year.  Bookings are made beforehand via our online booking and payment system so we know how many people are coming.  Accompanying parents and guardians are welcome to participate as well for the same price.  Simply register and pay online in the same way.

A word on archery for kids, especially little kids.

A good archery experience has at least two elements that some little kids find difficult.  There is the physical element where the bow has to be pulled back many times and this can be quite physically demanding.  Then there is the mental bit where there is a demand for the learner to be aware of their body and to understand what has to be done with their body and to be able to do it consistently.  Generally we find that the age of 11 is the earliest that children can deal with those two parts of learning archery.

For these reasons we strongly recommend against booking children under the age of 11 into the Kid’s Holiday Activity.  Mount Petrie Bowmen reserves the right to refuse coaching to anyone who is not of the required age or physical ability.

PLEASE NOTE: Parents/guardians of children under the age of 18 years are required to stay for the duration of the course, as they remain primarily responsible for the behaviour and welfare of their children.

So if you’re already there, parents/guardians might want to consider registering for the activity as well – for the same price.  Adults not accompanying a school age child will not be able to participate.
