Come & Try

Getting started in archery is easy.  Mount Petrie Bowmen holds regular “Come & Try” courses using safe modern equipment under the supervision of qualified coaches.  Everything is provided for your tuition.  You can come along as an individual or a whole family.

Come & Try courses are designed to allow you to gain basic archery skills and experience the thrill of hitting the target in the middle. You will be assisted in this by our volunteer coaches who are also skilled archers.  Sessions begin at 8.30am but we need you there by 8.15am so that we can distribute equipment before starting.  The mornings finish around 11.00 – 11.30am.

The activity is mostly conducted in our 30m x 30m indoor facility so the course runs in all weather conditions.  If the weather is kind, we may be able to spend some time outdoors where we have a substantial sun shade.

Courses are run at regular intervals throughout the year.  Bookings are made beforehand via our online booking and payment system so we know how many people are coming.

Cost is $60.00pp and covers equipment hire, access to the venue, insurance and sufficient coaches to keep everyone safe and the course moving along.

If you already own your own archery equipment you will not be able to use it on the course.

A word on archery for kids, especially little kids.

A good archery experience has at least two elements that some little kids find difficult.  There is the physical element where the bow has to be pulled back many times and this can be quite physically demanding.  Then there is the mental bit where there is a demand for the learner to be aware of their body and to understand what has to be done with their body and to be able to do it consistently. Generally, we find that the age of 10 is the earliest that children can deal with those two parts of learning archery.

For these reasons we strongly recommend against booking children under the age of 10 into the Come & Try Course.

PLEASE NOTE: Parents/guardians of children under the age of 18 years are required to stay for the duration of the course, as they remain primarily responsible for the behaviour and welfare of their children.

Archery can be for the whole family, including older people and those living with a disability.  Bookings and payment are only taken online – book now.
